Sanding and polishing

The sanding can be made manual or with a machine following the instruction below. To start the process you should use wet sanding paper or dry sanding paper in increasing the grit of the paper. If the material has a lot of scratches you have to start with a 150-grit if not start with 320-grit and you finish the sanding process with 600-grit.
Be sure to use plenty of water and rinse the sandpaper frequently to keep it from clogging. With power sanders, only light pressure should be applied to reduce friction. Follow "Polishing Surfaces" procedure for a higher finish.
The same general procedure applies to disc and belt sanders and grinding wheels generally used on the edges rather than the surface of the Vical acrylic. The greater danger of heat generation with mechanical sanders makes the use of water or oil coolants doubly desirable. Wet sanders are preferred, but dry sanders can be used with care. Open coat sandpaper should be used since it does not become clogged as fast as closed coat sandpaper.
Once the sanding process is finished clean the surface to remove all the abrasive remains that could have been left.
The final polishing it is done with a smooth flannel with light polishing paste. The flannel could be use manually but it is advisable to do it with a machine because of a better quality of finishing and a gloss surface. The rotational speed should be between 1000 meters/minutes to 1400 meters/minutes.
