Milling of Vical S.A. acrylic sheet

The milling of the acrylic as well as the lathe is similar to the one made in soft materials. This operation can be done with horizontal milling machine, vertical milling machine, and manual milling machine. Tools of HSS can be used as well as carbon steel, hard metal, etc.
The cutting rate in this cases is from 30 to 50 mm/minute while the advance is from 1 to 4 mm/minute.

Warnings:

» Fix the piece of acrylic firmly to decrease the vibrations.

» Use liquid refrigerant (soluble oil).

» The depth of the milling should not exceed 3 times the diameter of the mill.

» Avoid to introduce or take out the mill abruptly, so not to provoke the broken of the acrylic.
